Taking its name from the gaelic term for ‘green valley’, Dailuaine is a Speyside distillery near the town of Carron, in the heart of the region. It was originally built by William MacKenzie in 1851, before being extended by his son, and James Fleming, in 1884. This made it one of the largest distilleries in Scotland at the time. Now owned by Diageo, Dailuaine is mainly used for blended whiskies and is a key component of Johnnie Walker. Only 2% of the output here is reserved for single malts. Official bottlings of Dailuaine are rare. The 16 year old, part of Diageo’s Flora and Fauna range, remains the only core release from the distillery. Independent bottlers offer another way of sampling this classic Speysider, such as this 10 year old expression from Signatory Vintage.
