Benrinnes is a Speyside whisky distillery in Aberlour. It was originally founded as a farm distillery in 1826, before being destroyed by a flood just three years later. Rebuilding took place in the 1830s and has since mainly been used as a contributor to blends such as Johnnie Walker and other Diageo brands. Until 2007, Benrinnes used a partial triple distillation process, but is now double distilled. While it has unmistakably fruity notes that are typical of the region, it is full-bodied with an unusually meaty character. It marries particularly well with sherry casks. Official bottlings are rare. A first single malt was released in 1991, when the Benrinnes 15 was launched under the Flora and Fauna range. This remains the only official expression from the distillery, although independent bottlings can be found.
