Strathmill is an often overlooked distillery in the Speyside village of Keith. Built in 1891, it was originally founded as Glenisla-Glenlivet, before changing its name four years later, following the acquisition by W & A Gilbey. It is now owned by Diageo and is one of three distilleries in the village, alongside Strathisla and Glen Keith. Bottlings of Strathmill are rare and highly sought after by collectors. This is because the whisky produced here is mainly used for J&B, and previously, Dunhill. Its favourability in blends is due to its light and fruity flavour, as well as a slightly oily quality created via the use of a purifier pipe. The only official single malt release is the Strathmill 12 Year Old, from the Flora and Fauna range, although independent bottlings are occasionally available.
